Which Moonlight Blessing Unit Should You Choose? | Epic Seven Wiki for Beginners (1)

It’s been a little while since the Moonlight Blessing was released in Epic 7. In short, the Moonlight Blessing gives you a choice of one of six ML5s to acquire, after clearing 10-10 of Episode 1. You have to fulfill certain conditions in order to fully unlock your Moonlight 5-star of your choice, and you can change your choice of ML5, but only once. Your choice of Moonlight 5 units is: Arbiter Vildred, Ruele of Light, Judge Kise, Martial Artist Ken, Dark Corvus, and Specter Tenebria.

A lot of people have been debating as to which ML5 to choose, and I was hoping I could give my own insight in this matter. To keep things relatively short, I’m going to sort this article into three parts – the “absolute top-tier ML5s” part, the “pretty good choices” part, and the “not-so-great” part.

To be perfectly clear, none of these ML5s are bad, in that their kit is garbage. A few of these units have simply fallen out of the meta. They could get buffed, or they could somehow rise back up in the meta again. With that said, let’s begin, starting with top-tier.

Table of Contents

Top Tier

Our top tier units are Arbiter Vildred and Specter Tenebria. I’m going to briefly go through what they do in a nutshell, before I add a little bit of analysis in which of the two to pick.

Arbiter Vildred

Which Moonlight Blessing Unit Should You Choose? | Epic Seven Wiki for Beginners (2)

“Once among the greatest of believers in the Goddess and her Covenant, Arbiter Vildred joined hands with the Acolyte Kayron and betrayed everyone and everything he once believed in. Within his body is contained the power of the Archdemon Anghraf.”

Class: Thief

Element: Dark

  • S1: Attacks two enemies, decreasing their Combat Readiness by 10%.
  • Passive: When hit with a fatal attack, immediately revives himself with 70% HP (100% when fully skilled up), fully recovers his Focus meter, and resets the cooldown of his s3. (Reusable in 5 turns)
  • S3: Attacks all enemies, decreases their Hit Chance for 2 turns. When his Focus meter is full, he consumes it all to increase damage dealt. Doesn’t put his S3 on cooldown if he kills someone with it. (Reusable in 5 turns)

Specter Tenebria

Which Moonlight Blessing Unit Should You Choose? | Epic Seven Wiki for Beginners (3)

“While searching for a form that she liked, Tenebria enjoyed destroying people’s minds. Her greatest joy came from watching them die from the poison of her illusions.”

Class: Mage

Element: Dark

  • S1: Has a 50% chance (75% when fully skilled up) to inflict Poison for 2 turns, and can’t trigger counterattacks. Attacks 2 enemies when her S3 is on cooldown.
  • Passive: Can’t be selected as a target for single-target attacks as long as there’s another ally alive that’s capable of being attacked. Increases her Attack and Defense by 7% (10% when fully skilled up) whenever anybody in the battlefield dies, and stacks up to 5 times.
  • S3: Attacks an enemy, decreasing Combat Readiness of all remaining enemies by 50% if the enemy dies. Also increases her damage proportional to the amount of debuffs on the enemy. (Reusable in 4 turns when fully skilled up)

First of all, if you’re a new player and don’t know what to pick, then pick Arbiter Vildred (who we’re going to refer to as Arby from this point on). Arby is one of the best units in the game. He’s pretty much good in almost all content, with the exception of Hunt. However, he’s one of the best units to use in fast-farming content, and he carries over incredibly well to late-game PVP. His damage is very strong, his S3 is almost constantly up, and he comes with a free revive – what’s not to love about him?

After that is Specter Tenebria (hereby referred to as Steneb). She’s also a top-tier unit in PvE. Like Arby, she doesn’t really do the best in the Hunts, but unlike Arby, her best PvE area is generally considered to be the Abyss. She carries over to late-game PVP as well, meaning that both units are very good picks especially if you’re a newer player. She’s generally considered to be a top-tier damage-dealing character, but unlike Arby she doesn’t have the same potential to nuke the enemy’s entire team in one move.

In short, if you don’t know who to pick, and you’re a new player, Arby would be one of your best bets to go for. Steneb is another very strong pick as well, but won’t immediately make your gameplay any better (Arby immediately becomes a very good fast-farmer unit, in comparison).

Great Tier

In the great-tier section, we have Ruele of Light and Dark Corvus. Ruele is the better pick of the two, as she brings a full heal, cleanse and revive (one of the strongest revives in this game), but Dark Corvus can make as a fun Guild War toy. However, that’s more PVP-oriented, and Ruele is already very strong.

Like with the Top-Tier section, I’m going to give a little bit of info on Ruele and D.Corvus’s skills before analyzing them a bit.

Ruele of Light

Which Moonlight Blessing Unit Should You Choose? | Epic Seven Wiki for Beginners (4)

“An Heir of the Sixth World, Ruele is revered for her kindness. She is a Soul Weaver who gained the favor of the Lord of Light, Destina. Her only hobby is telling fortunes with rabbit fortune cookies.”

Class: Soul Weaver

Element: Light

Her skillset is:

  • S1: Attacks an enemy and then heals the ally with the lowest HP. Heal amount is based off of the ally’s Max HP.
  • S2: Fully cleanses an ally, heals them, and then gives them a barrier for 2 turns. Heal amount and barrier strength is proportional to Ruele’s Max HP. (Reusable in 3 turns)
  • S3: Revives an ally with full HP and grants them 1 turn invincibility. If she uses this skill on an alive ally, it’ll dispel all debuffs before healing them to full and still grants Invincibility. (Reusable in 4 turns when fully skilled up)

Dark Corvus

Which Moonlight Blessing Unit Should You Choose? | Epic Seven Wiki for Beginners (5)

“Corvus was originally a soldier from Rose Apostles until something caused him to lose his faith and grow disillusioned with the world, and now he only wishes for its destruction. However, he still contains a gentle side within him.”

Class: Warrior

Element: Dark

Here’s Dark Corvus’s skills:

  • S1: Attacks the enemy, and absorbs some damage as HP. Has a 50% chance (max 75% chance) to Provoke the enemy for 1 turn.
  • Passive: Has a 70% chance (100% when skilled up) to decrease his s3’s cooldown by 1 turn when he’s hit, 2 turns if it’s a critical hit.
  • S3: Attacks the enemy. Can’t deal a critical hit, but the only thing that affects the damage is his Max HP. Begins the battle on a full skill cooldown count. (Reusable in 8 turns when fully skilled up)

Now, let’s go into the analysis with Ruele and Dark Corvus.

Ruele is actually one of the strongest revivers in the game, due to the full heal and the invincibility that she gives to ensure that the unit doesn’t immediately get nuked down again. And, as if that’s not strong enough, her s3 can still be used on a living ally. She’s a very strong unit, and is on the higher end of the “Great-Tier” list.

If anything, the only reason why I didn’t put her in top-tier is because I wanted to have two units in each tier, to balance things out. Just know that Ruele is my number 3 pick for Moonlight Blessings. If you’re reading this when I get this article up, though, Ruele’s actually on the Mystic summon rotation, next to Inferno Khawazu. So, if you get to this article right now, maybe try and get a Ruele from there before doing your Blessing?

Dark Corvus is more of a PVP unit, as I’ve stated. He shines at his best in Guild Wars, where the battles can become long and drawn out. You can’t use him in the Hunts (or really PvE in general), because it takes a while to set him up. However, in PVP and with Iseria, you can end up causing some serious damage. If you’re prepared to have a longer fight, though, you don’t even need Iseria. Also, Dark Corvus works wonderfully with the limited unit Fairytale Tenebria.

The reason why Dark Corvus’s damage is so good is because he ignores defense completely on his s3, and all you need to worry about is his Max HP. He can’t deal a critical hit, but a 30,000+ HP Dark Corvus can end up completely taking out even the tougher of tanks. The fact that he can’t really be used in PvE (arguably the most important area for a new player to focus on) and the fact it takes a while for him to charge up – even with his passive – is what keeps him from being in Top-tier, though.

To recap: Ruele of Light is one of the better units to pick from, and can greatly help your game. Dark Corvus, meanwhile, is meant more for later-game content. This means if you already have all five of your Hunt 13 teams set up stably and you’re looking to get into Guild Wars (or you already have all 5 of the other Blessings), then D.Corvus is your man. My recommendation for early-game in this tier, though? Ruele of Light.

Middle Tier

Finally, we have Judge Kise and Martial Artist Ken. These guys… aren’t in the meta. They both used to absolutely dominate the meta, but not so much these days. Probably not the best choice to pick them if you’re starting out; there are 4 choices that are way better.

Basically, picking either of these units is a pretty bad idea considering the state of the game right now. Now, I can’t guarantee if it’ll continue to be a bad idea in the future – I am simply writing this in the meta we’re in at this very moment.

Judge Kise

Which Moonlight Blessing Unit Should You Choose? | Epic Seven Wiki for Beginners (6)

“An Heir of the Sixth World, Kise is leader of the Nocturnes. She fought every battle against the Archdemon alongside the Guardian Kromcruz. Though she can be sluggish and sharp-tongued, she cares greatly for her fellow Heirs.”

Class: Warrior

Element: Light

Her skillset in a nutshell is:

  • S1: Attacks an enemy, with a 50% chance (when maxed) to decrease Defense for 2 turns.
  • S2: Attacks all enemies, with a 75% chance to remove a buff off of them. Damage increases with more enemies. (Reusable in 3 turns)
  • S3: Attacks all enemies, with a 75% chance (when maxed) three times to increase their skill cooldowns by 1 turn. (Reusable in 5 turns when fully enhance)

She also has some really decent multipliers too, especially for AoE attacks.

Martial Artist Ken

Which Moonlight Blessing Unit Should You Choose? | Epic Seven Wiki for Beginners (7)

Fun fact: right when I was in the middle of working on this section, Martial Artist Ken received a few buffs to his skillset. The buffs haven’t been applied in-game as I write this, however I have updated this article to reflect better on his buffed state. If it turns out I’m wrong and that the new Martial Artist Ken is actually very good, then I’ll update this article post-publishing. For now, though…

“In his goal of becoming the strongest in the universe, he is hunting down and challenging every martial arts master he can find. He will cross time and space, and even dimensions, to find a worthy challenger.”

Class: Warrior

Element: Dark

In a nutshell, his changed skillset is:

  • S1: Attacks the enemy, with a 100% chance (when maxed) to decrease the enemy’s Attack for 1 turn.
  • Passive: Increases his Effect Resistance by 30%, and also has a 30% chance to counterattack when he’s hit. When he’s hit with a critical hit, that chance becomes 100%. His counterattacks deal critical hits and deal damage based on his lost HP. When his s3 is available, he increases his Combat Readiness by 25%.
  • S3: Attacks all enemies, with a 80% chance to decrease their Defense for 2 turns, and also increases his Attack for 2 turns. When he successfully lands the attack (as in, it’s not a mess) it will always land as a Critical Hit. (Reusable in 5 turns when fully skilled up)

These two are… very iffy, to say the least. Judge Kise is a very niche pick these days, as cleave isn’t a highly-picked strategy in PVP. Plus, it’s not like she’s any good in PVE content, either. Honestly, I don’t have a lot to say about her. Not really a good choice unless you don’t have anyone else (or she’s your waifu).

Martial Artist Ken is similar to Dark Corvus, in that he’s used for a slightly-different and not-meta playstyle in PVP. However, these new changes (the Effect Resistance and his s2’s Combat Readiness increase) actually hurt him. You want Martial Artist Ken to counterattack as much as possible to punish people for attacking him, and you’ll actually end up getting less with the CR increase. I wouldn’t recommend him.

In short: Arbiter Vildred, Specter Tenebria, and Ruele of Light are your top 3 choices. Everyone after that is more niche than anything else.

I hope you all enjoyed this article! I’m going to assume a lot of you picked Arby or Steneb (I know I got Arby), but I’m sure there’s a few who got someone else. I’m Sara Ann, and I’ll see you in the next article!
